National Expert Academy
Medical Expert Witness Training
The National Expert Academy trains licensed clinicians to do medical expert witness work: physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses. The training is not about how to market yourself. It is about the two things attorneys judge you on. The written report, and how that opinion holds up in a deposition. Every course is built on The C.L.E.A.R. Method, the five-step framework developed by Tracy Liberatore, Esq., PA-Emeritus inside Med Legal Pro, a medical-legal consulting firm that has placed experts on real cases since 2016. What the training produces is a report an attorney can build a case on, and an expert who can defend it under oath.

Who this training is for
- Clinicians who have never taken a case and want to know what attorneys actually expect before they submit anything.
- Experts who already get retained but keep getting rewritten, or who stopped hearing back from a firm and were never told why.
- Clinicians who have been deposed once, found out what unprepared feels like, and do not want a second lesson on the record.
- Physicians, nurses, PAs and NPs who want a second income stream that uses the clinical judgment they already have, on a schedule that fits practice.
Attorneys rarely send corrections. They just stop calling. This training exists so you learn the standard before your name is attached to a report that is read in a room you are not in.
The C.L.E.A.R. Method
Clinical writing and legal writing are different disciplines. They do not share a purpose or a structure, and a report written the way you were trained to write a chart note works against you. The C.L.E.A.R. Method starts the moment a case assignment lands and ends when a report you can defend under oath goes out the door. See the full framework.
- C. Clinical-Legal Context. The shift from clinician to expert, and the legal question your opinion has to answer.
- L. Legal Record Analysis. Reading thousands of pages the way an attorney reads them: what is relevant, what is missing, what will matter.
- E. Expert Report Structure. Structure is not formatting. It is credibility, established before anyone reads your opinion.
- A. Analysis and Opinion. Opinion language, foundation and causation written so they hold when tested.
- R. Review and Refinement. The pass you make before it leaves your desk, against the same standard an attorney applies.

What a court-ready report has to survive
A report is not finished when it reads well. It is finished when it holds up against every one of these.
- The retaining attorney’s read. Is the opinion usable, or does the attorney have to rewrite it before it goes anywhere.
- Opposing counsel. Every sentence is a place to attack scope, assumption and overstatement.
- The record itself. Every factual statement has to be traceable to a document, not to memory or habit.
- Causation. Stated to the standard the jurisdiction requires, not hedged into meaninglessness and not overclaimed.
- Your own credentials. The opinion has to stay inside what your license and experience support.
- Your deposition. You will be asked to defend the exact words you chose, months later, under oath.

Frequently asked questions
What is medical expert witness training?
Medical expert witness training teaches a licensed clinician how to do the work attorneys retain experts for: reading a medical record for the legal question, forming an opinion that is defensible, writing a report that survives opposing counsel, and holding that opinion under deposition. At the National Expert Academy it is taught through The C.L.E.A.R. Method, a five-step framework built inside Med Legal Pro, a working medical-legal consulting firm.
Who can take medical expert witness training at the National Expert Academy?
Licensed clinicians. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses and other licensed healthcare professionals, whether they have never taken a case or already do expert work and want their reports to stop coming back marked up. There is no bar exam requirement and no prior legal training needed.
Do I need to be an experienced expert witness to start?
No. The Expert Report Starter Kit is $97 and exists so a clinician can see the standard attorneys apply before committing to anything larger. Experienced experts usually start at the Certified Medical Expert Report Writer program or at report review, because their gap is the report and the deposition, not the medicine.
What is the difference between a report writing course and a medical expert witness course?
Most expert witness courses teach marketing and how to get retained. The report is what decides whether a firm calls you a second time. This training is built around the document and the testimony that follows it: structure, opinion language, causation, foundation, and the questions opposing counsel asks about all four.
How long does the training take?
The Expert Report Starter Kit and the Certified Medical Expert Report Writer program are self-paced with lifetime access, so they move at the speed of a clinical schedule. The Expert Ready cohort runs six consecutive weeks, October 6 to November 10, 2026, with the testimony track on Tuesdays 6:00 to 7:30 pm ET.
Who teaches the training?
Tracy Liberatore, Esq., PA-Emeritus. A former physician assistant with ten years of clinical practice, an attorney, and the founder of Med Legal Pro, which has placed medical experts on real cases since 2016. The curriculum comes from a decade of attorney feedback on real expert reports, not from a textbook.
The National Expert Academy provides education for licensed clinicians. Nothing here is legal advice, and no case outcome, retention or income is guaranteed.
